My Mazda tribute 2001 will not shift into D1 it only goes into D2.?

We just recently replaced the transmission on the car and it revs when in park. This also, happened with the previous tranny. Now the car will not shift in to D1. It goes into to neutral and then into d2. Has anyone ever experienced this issue or know anything about it your help would be greatly appreciated.
